Know When You Appear in an Event Poet Session
An Optional Layer of Awareness and Protection
People appear in audiovisual recordings every day without knowing that they were recorded. Sometimes their appearance is entirely incidental: they walk past a camera, enter a public space, drive through an area, or briefly appear in the background of an event. In other circumstances, a person may become materially relevant to an event or may be identified within a session as a person of interest.
Event Poet is designed to help qualified subscribers understand that distinction.
Through an optional subscription feature, an individual may elect to receive a secure notification when Event Poet determines, with the required level of confidence and review, that the individual appeared in an Event Poet session. The notification can indicate whether the appearance was incidental or whether the individual was identified as relevant to the event being examined.
This feature addresses a basic technological and human problem: a person cannot evaluate the legitimacy of an Event Poet session if the person never knows that the session involved them.
Voluntary Enrollment
A subscriber who selects this additional protection may voluntarily provide a protected biometric reference during Event Poet’s registration, identity-verification, and qualification process. That reference is used for the limited purpose of identifying the enrolled subscriber within authorized Event Poet sessions and providing the requested notification.
The subscriber may separately choose whether to permit supporting information, such as location data supplied through the Event Poet application or another authorized device, to be considered when confirming a possible match. Location participation requires an affirmative setting and appropriate device permission. It serves as corroborating information rather than conclusive proof that a particular person appeared in a session.
Enrollment in this feature does not transform the subscriber into an object of continuous monitoring. It creates a permissioned method through which Event Poet can recognize an enrolled individual during a governed session and provide that individual with timely awareness.
How the Notification Works
When authorized audiovisual information contributes to an active Event Poet session, the system may compare a detected face with the protected biometric references of subscribers who have voluntarily enrolled in the notification service.
A potential match is evaluated according to established confidence thresholds, session rules, and any required review procedures. When a match is sufficiently confirmed, Event Poet may send the subscriber a secure notification containing information such as:
-
The Event Poet session identification number.
-
The approximate date and time of the appearance.
-
A high-level description of whether the appearance was incidental or materially relevant.
-
A secure method for requesting additional information.
-
Instructions for disputing the classification, reporting possible misuse, or requesting preservation of relevant records.
Being described as a “person of interest” within a session does not establish wrongdoing, guilt, or legal responsibility. It is a session-specific designation indicating that the person was treated as potentially relevant to understanding the event.
Incidental Appearance
Many notifications may require no further action.
A subscriber might have walked through the background of a legitimate Event Poet session or driven past an event being examined. In that situation, the system could inform the subscriber that the appearance was incidental and that the individual was not the focus of the session.
This limited notification gives the subscriber awareness while preserving the privacy and integrity of the underlying event record.
Protection in a Questionable or Bad-Faith Session
The feature becomes especially important when an Event Poet session may have been activated for an improper purpose.
A subscriber might use Event Poet to follow a former partner, monitor a neighbor, pursue a personal grievance, or convert ordinary conduct into the appearance of a suspicious event. Event Poet may not always be able to determine the subscriber’s true purpose at the moment of activation. The system can, however, preserve an auditable history of how the session was initiated and operated.
That record may include the initiating subscriber’s identity, representations, prompts, scope changes, searches, warnings, access requests, attempted disclosures, and other material actions.
If an enrolled person is recognized in such a session, the notification feature can alert that person and provide a credentialed pathway for requesting review. The affected person may then be able to question the session’s legitimacy, report suspected misuse, request preservation of relevant records, or pursue other lawful remedies.
In this manner, Event Poet can produce accountability in two directions. It can document the event being examined, and it can document how a subscriber used, or misused, the system while examining it.
Controlled Access and Recourse
Receiving an appearance notification does not automatically disclose the entire recording, the identities of every participant, or the identity of the subscriber who initiated the session. Immediate and unrestricted disclosure could expose private information, interfere with a legitimate investigation, or enable confrontation, retaliation, or additional surveillance.
Requests for further information therefore proceed through authenticated and credentialed channels. Access may depend on the person’s relationship to the session, the nature of the event, applicable contractual provisions, operator review, preservation requirements, and governing law.
Subject to those controls, the affected person may be able to:
-
Learn how their appearance was classified.
-
Challenge inaccurate identification or characterization.
-
Report a suspected bad-faith activation.
-
Request that relevant audit records be preserved.
-
Submit information that provides context or corrects the session record.
-
Seek appropriate civil, criminal, administrative, or other lawful recourse.
The purpose of the feature is awareness and accountability. It does not provide a reverse-tracking capability through which one subscriber can locate, monitor, or retaliate against another.
Preventing Abuse of the Protection Feature
A person with improper intentions could also attempt to subscribe to Event Poet. For that reason, access to appearance notifications and related records must remain governed by the same protections that apply throughout the Event Poet system.
These protections may include verified identity, recurring qualification, role-based permissions, multifactor authentication, purpose limitations, access logging, anomaly detection, elevated review for sensitive requests, and suspension or revocation when misuse occurs.
Every request for additional session information can itself become part of the audit record. This helps prevent the notification service from being used to map other subscribers, discover confidential sessions, or gain unauthorized access to audiovisual records.
Awareness as a Subscription Service
Event Poet’s appearance-notification capability may be offered as an optional subscription tier or paid account enhancement. Subscribers who want this additional level of awareness can voluntarily enroll, manage their permissions, and select how they receive notifications.
For subscribers, the feature offers something conventional recording systems rarely provide: a programmatic way to learn that they appeared in an event record and a governed pathway for responding.
For prospective licensees, operators, and acquirers of the Event Poet intellectual property, the feature demonstrates a commercially viable subscription service built around privacy, transparency, accountability, and subscriber protection.
Event Poet does more than assemble information about events. It is designed to help qualified participants understand when an event record includes them, how their appearance was characterized, and what responsible steps are available afterward.
