Visible, Connected, Prepared, and Inactive Until Activated

Event Poet is conceived for the places where people live their lives: homes, neighborhoods, businesses, shopping areas, vehicles, institutions, transportation environments, municipalities, public spaces, and other participating locations.

At its basis, Event Poet is designed to assist people, organizations, compatible audiovisual systems, and participating public-safety entities develop a more coordinated understanding of qualifying real-world events. Its value begins with preparedness, becomes operational when an event arises, and continues through understanding, preservation, and review of what occurred before, during, and after that event.

Event Poet’s larger ambition is not to document more events. It is to help its subscriber and their communities become safer, better informed, more prepared, and ultimately places where fewer unsafe events occur in the first place. In fact, its larger ambition is to document fewer calls. Like a golf score, compared to an area before Event Poet arrived, now that it is operable, the fewer the calls the better the score.

Event Poet’s Community Visibility

Event Poet can become recognizable within the communities and environments in which it participates. That visibility may take many forms: signs outside participating residences, decals on windows, identifiers on compatible cameras, placards at business entrances, parking-area signage, vehicle decals, identifiers associated with rideshare vehicles, notices within transportation environments, and appropriate markings associated with participating institutional or public-safety systems.

The purpose of this visibility extends beyond branding. Visibility products inform people that an environment is capable of participating in Event Poet, provide public notice and transparency, reinforce community awareness, build recognition of the Event Poet ecosystem, contribute to a sense of preparedness and security; and potentially discourage harmful or unlawful conduct by making greater event visibility more apparent.

An Event Poet identifier can therefore become a recognizable indication that a participating environment has taken an affirmative step toward improved event preparedness. At the same time, the meaning of that identifier should remain clear. It identifies Event Poet participation or capability; it does not, standing alone, announce that a session is presently underway.

Cameras and Event Poet Have Distinct Functions

Event Poet may operate with cameras and audiovisual systems that already have their own independent purposes and have been or will be installed.

A residential doorbell camera may record a delivery. A business camera may perform routine security functions. A vehicle camera may operate independently. A participating audiovisual device may therefore be functioning even when Event Poet itself has not been activated.

The distinction is deliberately simple:

The camera may be active. Event Poet is inactive until activated.

That sentence expresses an important operational principle in plain language.

Event Poet is additionally an event-responsive software system associated with participating systems. The ordinary operation of the underlying camera and the operational state of Event Poet are separate matters. When the conditions for an Event Poet session arise, those separate capabilities can come together around the event.
